Search Engine Optimization And The Tags Needed
Search engine optimization boils down to two aspects, on-site optimization and off-site optimization. On-site optimization consists of optimizing titles, images, content and tags, where as off site optimization is link building whilst promoting your keyterms. Google still relys on tags to build information on your website and to display it to the right people. You may have noticed that google has many country variations of its search engine, for example google.co.uk, google.com and google.fr. When you create your website you want to know who your target country is and then focus on ranking highly in that regional search engine.
There’s several ways of telling google which country you want your website displayed too, you can use googles webmaster tools section or/and you can use the meta geo tag. The more hints you give google the easier for it to rank you correctly, make sure all your code is clean and search engine friendly to maximise results.
Once your geographical location is set you can then start working on the more important tags first like meta description, meta keyword and meta refresh. The meta keywords tag tells google what keyterms you would like to rank for on that particular page, this tag is still used and favoured a lot my the search engines. Another tag which still holds some weight is the meta description tag as this is what appears next to your website in the search engine and reflects the content on that specific page. If google feels the description isn’t relevant enough for that search it will make its own based on how well optimized your on-site content is.
Another important tag that you should make sure you use as often as you can is the title tags and heading tags, these two elements hold a lot of weight with google and can have a big impact on the way your webpage’s are optimized.
You can also optimize the html image tag with title and alt tags as well, this helps your images rank well in google images and also goes towards optimizing your webpage.
