I thought about trying to learn to play the guitar recently so I wanted to find some of the best guitar courses that would help me learn to play.  My first attempt was to try Google, but I became impatient trying to wade through all the affiliate sites trying to sell various paid guitar courses.  I then decided to try Delicious, my favorite social bookmarking site.  Just a few keystrokes later, I had found several great sites that had useful content related to what I was looking for. 

What told me that these sites were good?  I knew this because Delicous told me exactly how many other people liked the exact same site.  Social bookmarking sites like Delicious, Mixx, Stumbleupon, and Digg are all examples of popular social bookmarking sites.  These sites allow you to find pages that you find interesting and share them with others.  You can also tag these pages with several related keywords which helps others more easily find your saved pages.  The best content gets voted on by the site’s users, which in turn allows it to become more visible within the site.  This allows you to find interesting and good content, like my guitar example.

The best of these social bookmarking sites are also ranked highly in Google.  You will experience a lot of benefits if your content gets shared on these sites.  If you write good enough content, then it may be picked up by others and go viral.  Viral content can bring tons of traffic to your page.  This has the additional benefit of getting links back to your page which can improve your rankings in the search engines.

There are some nice tools that you can use to make submitting your sites to social bookmarking sites easier.  One must have blogging tool is called OnlyWire.  It adds a button to each post on your blog and allows your content to be automatically submitted to the most popular social bookmarking sites.  Another nice piece of software is called Bookmarking Demon.  It has the added benefit of making it easy to create accounts and vary your submissions to create more unique content.  Try as many of these tools as you can, and take advantage of social bookmarking sites to find and promote content.

I have been using a new blog posting service, and so far I am impressed with the features.

I have so far submitted 18 articles in 13 days, and they have been placed on a total of 33 sites total between them already. If I can keep doing 1 article a day, this will be very viral.

The system has the built in article spinning system in place. You just paste in your article and title, keywords, and maybe a youtube video, and once you save it as draft, you can start using the automated spinner.

The auto spinner gives you a sentence from your post, and it gives you 10 more places to input alternate sentences. Using the auto spinner and giving each sentence an alternate sentence, each time your article is spun, it is over 100% unique or spun. Some of my titles are 900% spun.

The real power is when you edit the spinning manually after all your sentences, or before if you choose. You also get another level of spinning that lets you substitute words for one another inside each of the sentences being spun, giving you even more uniqueness for each blog post, all with your 3 links.

The content you submit is treated like a blog post as opposed to an article. There is no authors box, and your can place up to 3 links in each post, and if you change keywords and links in your spun text, you can do some deep linking with this system.

The other part of the system is getting content for your blog, you can add as many of your own blogs to receive content, you have control over whether they get published or not, just leave the links intact. One cool thing that happens when you approve an article, you get to leave feedback to the author anonymously. This is a great feature, I was able to let 1 author know that his spun titles weren’t coming out so great (bad spinning, his fault), and I asked another author for a specific keyworded article for one of my blogs.

Whether or not they see my messages remains to be seen, but the system as a whole is really looking good for affiliate marketing, you can use it for backlinks, or just put in your affiliate links, its up to you. I have tried to use a mix of both, since I have 3 links per post.

I would recommend this to anybody that wants to get more exposure for their blog or affiliate links thru article marketing.

We’ve all heard the expression ‘content is king’ applied to web pages. But if that is really the case why are there still many pages with excellent content that don’t rank very well at all in the Google SERPs?

The simple answer to this question is links. Good quality, informative and authoritative content is crucial for site visitors. But some would argue that even the best content will be near invisible in the Google SERPs if there are no links leading to that page.

Basically, Google needs some signposts and those signposts are provided in the form of links. The links use anchor text and those anchors are the signposts that provide Google with an indication as to what is at the end of the link when it is followed. This is where key-term use in links is vitally important.

Links to a web page can be internal or external. Let’s first consider internal links. The internal links start with the sites navigation system. Ideally a sites navigation system will use descriptive terms as anchor text in the links to each the sites pages. This is beneficial for both site visitors, giving them a very clear idea of what each page is about, and search engines. Pages may also be cross-linked internally with contextual links from the body text on certain relevant pages. This provides a valuable opportunity to vary the anchor text. Diversity of keywords used in internal links can be good for ranking.

Now let us consider the external links or back links to a web page. Notice I refer to a page and not to a site. It is important to remember that Google ranks web pages and not web sites, which is why it is important to consider each page and its links. The anchor text acts as a signpost indicating the topic of the linked page. It indicates what is at the end of the link if it is followed. A natural link profile will develop with a variety of anchors using various key-terms and the page URL. A good example is this internal site page that ranks well for various terms related to van leasing and van contract hire.

Effective use of keyterms as anchor text in both internal and external links needs to be matched with appropriate use of those keyterms in page titles, meta descriptions, H1 headings and page content will give a page the best chance of ranking well in the Google SERPs.
